The Express Entry Program to Canada

While almost all of the western developed nations are beginning to look right in their political views and are slowly but surely shutting the door on new immigrants or at the least putting more and more stringent conditions immigrant hopefuls to make the process more difficult, tedious and unappealing, Canada is one country that is firmly looking left and maintaining its stance of welcoming new immigrants with open arms. Whatever the reasons for its policy of welcoming immigrants, whether it is a pragmatic economy driven one, owing to labor shortage, or an altruistic one arising from the basic human ethic of welcoming new comers, Canada is pulling out all stops to not only make the immigration process easier but also to help new immigrants to mesh with the local culture and integrate into their companies and there has never been a better time than now to immigrate to Canada

One of the many programs under which an immigrant from India can move to Canada is the Express Entry Program which was introduced by the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in January 2015. Contrary to popular misconception the Express Entry Program is not a new program but is new methodology for screening and selecting potential immigrants. The Express Entry Program processes applications received by the IRCC through various economic programs such as Federal Skilled Workers Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, Provincial Nominee Program and Canadian Experience class. The members who apply for express entry program are evaluated using a comprehensive ranking score (CRS) which assigns scores for various categories totaling to 1200 points. The members who are found eligible for the Express Entry Program will need to submit an Expression of interest. If found eligible the member will be issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for obtaining Permanent Residency (PR) Visa to Canada. So what are the steps to entering the Express Entry program?

Steps to Applying for an Express entry program
1.Take either the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program – General (CEPLIP-G) exam or the International English Language Testing system – General Training (IELTS-GT) test to demonstrate your proficiency in English. This step is mandatory as one would not be eligible to apply without the results
2.If you are a Canadian Experience Class (CEC) applicant, then you need to get your Educational Credentials Assessment (ECA) through the World Education Services (WES)
3.Get a letter from your bank showing your account status to submit as proof of funds. The letter from the bank needs to show details including the date of opening the account and average balance for the preceding six months.
4.Retrieve records of your personal details, address and travel history. The IRCC expects applicants to submit exact dates for the applicants travels in the past and duration and details of their stay in different cities across the world in the past.
5.Determine the economic program you will be applying under and determine your eligibility for the same.
6.Make sure you have a valid job offer that has been validated by Service Canada and has been approved by the Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)
7.Apply online for Express Entry program by creating your profile on the Canada’s National Job bank, this will enable Canadian employers to view your profile and select your application based on their requirements.
8.Make sure every detail is filled in carefully and correctly, a major portion of the details are electronically transferred to your electronic Permanent Resident (PR) application on successfully getting through the Express Entry. It would be impossible to make any changes to your profile once submitted

Once you have submitted your application, it is time to wait and keep a lookout for the next express entry draw to determine if your application has made it through. Once your application has been passed, you will receive an invitation to apply (ITA). You will then need to apply for Permanent Residency (PR) within 90 days.
